2025 Discovery Awards Eligibility and Participation Guidelines
At the top level, actively enrolled high school students in eastern Oklahoma (grades 9-12) are eligible for adjudication for The Discovery Awards.
Schools qualify for adjudication once they have followed the submission process of completing the Intent to participate and Performance details forms and are confirmed by The Discovery Awards team. The adjudicated musical must come from the Jimmy Awards Qualifying Shows and Roles document that can be found here in late August, 2024.
A student may only be adjudicated once per school year.
Public and private high school students in a qualifying role can only be adjudicated in their high school musical.
Home school students participating in productions by home school collectives or co-ops (e.g. Courtyard Theatre and Clark Youth Theatre) are eligible for adjudication in a qualifying role. Students who are not home schooled but are participating in a home school collective or co-op production will not be eligible for adjudication.
Schools with double-cast productions will be adjudicated once with Discovery Awards adjudicators, any additional casts will be adjudicated by arrangements made between The Discovery Awards team and the school's program director or point of contact.
We are committing to sharing comments made by adjudicators with each school's program director once the ballots have been tallied. Adjudicator names will be redacted, but the comments will be preserved allowing teachers grater insight.
The 2025 Discovery Awards Ceremony will look similar to the Jimmy Awards(R) with students qualfying for either a character group or features group. Both groups will receive coaching throughout the week and will be in at least two ensemble numbers.

Who is eligible to participate? High schools that produce a qualifying musical
and are in the Northeast, East, or Southeast region of Oklahoma according to the OSSAA regional definitions.
What is a "qualifying musical?" As defined by The Jimmy Awards(R):
"The National High School Musical Theatre Awards® has reviewed the professional standards for identifying the definition of an Approved Musical and a Qualifying Role in an Approved Musical for the purposes of our program. These standards serve as a guide to create a minimum standard and criteria for what defines a Qualifying Role in the category of Best Actor / Actress in an amateur production of an Approved Musical." How will my school's musical be adjudicated? See a sample ballot below.
What if my school's musical is considerably smaller than most? You're doing a musical! You're the reason we have arts in the schools! The size of your musical has no bearing on how you'll be adjudicated. Schools with productions of all sizes and budgets participate.
What commitments will my students need to make? The two students nominated
from your production will need to be available for full rehearsal days over a weekend, and late afternoon and evenings for dates and times to be specified when the schedule is finalized.
The two finalists will schedule time to make TV appearances on the local news as well as other local appearances to be discussed later.
The two students selected in The Discovery Awards to represent the region at the Jimmy Awards(R) must be conflict free and available for all days during the NHSTMA week in NYC, dates TBA.
